Sky Lagoon – Tickets
During our trip, the renowned Blue Lagoon was temporarily closed for several weeks due to volcanic activity in the area. Consequently, those seeking a thermal pool experience in the Reykjavik region had to turn to the Sky Lagoon. Being aware of this situation, I took the initiative to secure our reservation weeks in advance.
Sky Lagoon offers three distinct packages with varying amenities, catering to different preferences and budgets. The entry-level option, Pure Lite, provides access to the lagoon itself. Moving up the scale, the Pure package not only grants lagoon access but also includes the exclusive 7 Step Ritual. At the highest tier is the Sky package, offering the same benefits as the Pure package but with the additional perk of private changing rooms. It’s worth noting that the Pure Lite and Pure packages come with communal changing rooms and showers.
Given our preference for a more private experience, particularly in terms of changing facilities, we opted for the top-tier Sky package. The online ticket purchasing process was straightforward – select your preferred package, choose the date and number of guests. However, it’s important to bear in mind that Sky Lagoon has a policy restricting entry to children under 12 years old.
Additionally, when securing the reservation, I ensured to utilize a card without any foreign transaction fees, such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred.
Experience
Upon our arrival at Sky Lagoon, we were warmly greeted by friendly staff who efficiently confirmed our reservation. They equipped us with a black wristband, granting access to the coveted 7 Step Ritual, and a white wristband, which we linked to a credit card for convenient purchases. The staff then directed us to the changing rooms, where another team member guided us to a private changing room. Here, we received instructions on locker usage, towel locations, and how to access the lagoon.
After showering and changing into our bathing suits, we ventured towards the warm waters of the lagoon. The entrance, situated inside and adjacent to the changing rooms, led us outside into a steam-covered water haven. Progressing through a canyon, the landscape unfolded to reveal the ocean as a stunning backdrop to the lagoon. We explored different areas of the pool, discovering an impressive waterfall, a “swim-up” bar, and the entrance to the 7 Step Ritual.
Embarking on the 7 Step Ritual, we began with a cold plunge pool, its depths limited to waist level. Passing through a doorway, we entered an impressive sauna, a tranquil space with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean, providing a serene environment for relaxation. Following that was the cold mist room, leading to a room where a team member presented bowls of body scrub for us to apply. Step 6 took us to the steam room, enclosed with a glass door and thick steam that obscured visibility to mere inches. Despite the lack of a view, the ambiance inside, particularly outside the sauna, was my favorite, emanating relaxation.
Upon completing all the steps, we returned to the lagoon and headed to the bar, where we enjoyed a cider while witnessing the sunset over the ocean. This marked the perfect conclusion to our immersive and rejuvenating experience at Sky Lagoon.
Final Thoughts
As the sun gracefully descended toward the horizon, casting an enchanting orange glow over the infinity pool, we sensed that our time at the Sky Lagoon was drawing to a close. However, the conclusion was nothing short of spectacular. Emerging from the experience with skin enriched by volcanic minerals, muscles eased by the warm waters, and spirits uplifted by awe-inspiring views, we felt truly revitalized. Jetlag became a distant memory, replaced by a profound sense of tranquility and renewal.
Leaving the embrace of the Sky Lagoon, we carried more than just memories; we carried a revitalized sense of adventure, a profound connection to the Icelandic landscape, and a newfound appreciation for the simple joy of immersing oneself in the natural warmth of the Earth. For those venturing to Reykjavik, the Sky Lagoon is a must-not-miss geothermal sanctuary. Let it serve as your portal to Icelandic bliss, and anticipate emerging ready to embrace the enchantment of your upcoming adventure.
A helpful tip: If you’re considering a visit, ensure to secure your package in advance, particularly during peak seasons. And, of course, don’t forget to pack your swimsuit – everything else you need awaits at the Sky Lagoon.
