Exploring The Grounds
Walking around Grounds For Sculpture takes you on a journey through various paths scattered across the expansive 42-acre park. These paths lead you to discover large sculptures prominently displayed in open fields, while others subtly surprise you as you venture down “hidden” narrow trails. The presence of these concealed sculptures has enticed us to return multiple times, revealing displays that were overlooked during our initial visit. With hidden gems awaiting discovery, one visit may not suffice to explore all the artistic wonders.
The park’s charm lies in its ability to captivate visitors for hours, with the vastness of the grounds ensuring that there’s always something new to encounter. The sculptures range from abstract creations to classic art paintings transformed into three-dimensional wonders, creating a whimsical atmosphere that particularly delights our kids as they eagerly seek out new pieces and capture moments with the lifelike sculptures.
Nestled adjacent to a picturesque pond within the park’s property is the French restaurant, Rat’s. Although we haven’t had the opportunity to dine there yet, the restaurant boasts excellent reviews and a charming setting, making it an ideal choice for a romantic couples’ outing.
As we conclude our day at Grounds For Sculpture, we often find ourselves at the Main building. This central hub houses the Van Gogh Cafe, a museum dedicated to the founder Seward Johnson, restrooms, and a gift shop. The air-conditioned environment provides a welcome respite after spending several hours under the Summer sun, offering a pleasant conclusion to our artistic escapade.
Final Thoughts
Grounds For Sculpture offers an ideal setting for a romantic couples’ outing or a wholesome family day amidst nature and immersive 3D art. The shaded paths, veiled by trees, ensure that even on the warmest days, you won’t find yourself drenched in sweat. If you thoroughly enjoy your visit, consider stopping by the guest service desk in the Main building. There, you have the opportunity to convert your day admission into an Annual Membership for a modest additional fee, providing savings for future visits. Based on our family’s experience of transitioning to a Membership after our initial visit, I wholeheartedly recommend exploring the enchanting world of Grounds For Sculpture.
